Skanva PDF Scanner for Android (com.appsyoda.pdfscanner)
Skanva PDF Scanner does not collect, store, transmit or share any personal data. Everything you scan stays on your device.
This policy explains what Skanva PDF Scanner (“the app”) does with your information. The app is published by Appsyoda (“we”, “us”). It applies to the Android app and to nothing else.
Information we collect
None. We do not collect, receive or have any access to your personal information, your documents, or how you use the app.
There are no user accounts and no sign-in. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number or location. We do not assign you an advertising identifier or any other persistent identifier.
Your documents stay on your device
The app does not request the Android internet permission. Without it, Android will not allow the app to open a network connection, so it is not technically capable of uploading your scans, sending analytics, or contacting any server.
What the app stores on your device:
- Scanned pages and thumbnails, written to the app’s private internal storage. Other apps cannot read them, and they do not appear in your photo gallery.
- Document names and dates, kept in a small file alongside them so your library survives closing the app.
- Temporary export files, written to the app’s cache when you export a PDF or JPG so the file can be handed to the share sheet. These are deleted the next time the app starts.
The app also switches off Android’s automatic backup. Many apps let Android copy their files to your Google account overnight, and copy them again when you set up a new phone. We have turned that off, so your scans are never uploaded to a Google account and are never transferred to another device. The trade-off is deliberate: scans exist on the one phone that took them, so export anything you want to keep before switching phones.
When files leave the app
Files only leave the app when you choose to send them, in one of two ways:
- Share hands the exported file to whichever app you pick from the Android share sheet — your email client, a messaging app, a cloud drive. From that point the receiving app’s own privacy policy governs what happens to the file. We are not involved in and have no visibility into that transfer.
- Save to Downloads copies the exported file into your device’s Downloads folder, where other apps can read it. Note that files saved this way are not removed if you later uninstall the app — delete them yourself if you want them gone.
Permissions and why they are needed
- Camera — required. It is the only way the app captures pages. The camera is used exclusively while you are on the capture screen. No image is taken without you pressing the shutter.
- Storage — requested only on Android 9 and older, and used only to place a file in your Downloads folder when you tap “Save to Downloads”. On Android 10 and newer the app does not request this permission at all.
Third parties
The app contains no advertising, no analytics, no crash reporting, and no social media or marketing SDKs. We do not use third-party services that would collect information about you.
The app is built with open-source software libraries, including AndroidX, Jetpack Compose, CameraX and OpenCV. These run entirely on your device as part of the app; they are not services, and they do not send anything anywhere.
Children’s privacy
The app is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. Because it collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children either. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and there is no mechanism by which we could.
Keeping and deleting your data
Because we never receive your data, there is nothing for us to retain and no deletion request to make to us. You are in full control:
- Delete a single document from the app’s home screen at any time.
- Clearing the app’s storage in Android Settings removes every scan.
- Uninstalling the app removes all of its scans and settings from your device. Because automatic backup is disabled, there is no cloud copy left behind afterwards.
- Exports you saved to your Downloads folder are yours to keep or delete; they are not affected by uninstalling.
Security
Scans are held in the app’s private storage area, which Android isolates from other apps. As with any file on your device, they are also protected by your device’s own lock screen and encryption. We recommend keeping a screen lock enabled.
Changes to this policy
If the app ever changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and change the date below before releasing that version. Since the app has no way to contact you, please check this page if you want to stay current.
